My work is often produced as a series or set, reflecting my interest in film and photography, the act of looking , and perception.
I am interested in the impact that microscopy, mirrors and other imaging devices had upon artists and art, alongside our growing relationships with, and acceptance of, various technological and industrial developments in the less distant past, and am interested in the process of visualisation itself. Some of my work refers to these themes.
Examining the development of our relationship with machines, devices, digital technology and how this has inspired film -makers and contemporary art practice, has also had an influence upon my work. I am interested in the way that these elements can come together in my own thinking and creating process, the way that time and memory are changed through the fleetingness of an image captured and how I can change its meaning and story.
Photographs are often (although not always) a reference for my work- a starting point- for imagination, research, technique and process to work together. Through the development of my work, I have a strong interest in Victorian lifestyle and culture and how the speed of development at that time sat with other traditions, habits and aspects of their existence (their passion for collecting and documenting, and their attitudes towards life and – especially- death).
